Language Immersion is a very simple, but highly useful, extension for Google Chrome. Learning a language is all about practice, which is precisely what Language Immersion lets you do. The add-on randomly translates parts of whatever you are reading online, using Google Translate. There are 3 levels of immersion - novice, intermediate and fluent- and you can pick any of the 64 languages currently supported by Google Translate.

  C|Net Video   The CNET video explains the Google browser extension. The video shows that you can load any text page into chrome and either several words or the whole page will be translated into one of 50 or 60 different languages. As you move your mouse over the foreign-language words it will be read to you in English. Clicking on the word will cause the text to be converted into English.   Chrome Immersion  is a plug-in which installs in your chrome browser.

As luck would have it, the mozilla foundation was holding a competition called Jetpack For Learning. I entered into the compeition and after a month of banging my head against the wall learning web development, Langladder was selected as one of the ten finalists. They flew my down to attend a design camp and SXSW interactive. The experience has been great and I am extremely grateful to the mozilla foundation.
